This homemade blueberry butter is a luscious, creamy spread infused with fresh blueberry sauce, vanilla, and a touch of maple syrup, perfect for enhancing toast, muffins, or scones. It combines the richness of butter with fruity sweetness for a delightful breakfast or snack addition.

Ingredients

Scale

Blueberry Sauce

  • 1/3 cup prepared blueberry sauce (cooled)

Butter Mixture

  • 1 cup unsalted butter (softened to room temperature)
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 3 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 1 vanilla bean (or 12 teaspoons vanilla extract)
  • 1 pinch kosher salt

Instructions

  1. Make the sauce: Prepare your blueberry sauce and set aside 1/3 cup to cool to room temperature. Leftover blueberry sauce can also be used for convenience.
  2. Beat butter and milk: In the bowl of a stand mixer, combine the softened butter and milk. Beat on low speed just until the ingredients are incorporated to avoid splattering.
  3. Whip until fluffy: Increase the mixer speed to medium-high and beat the mixture for about 5 minutes. Make sure to scrape down the sides and bottom of the bowl a couple of times during this process to ensure even whipping. The butter mixture should become light and fluffy in texture.
  4. Add remaining ingredients: Add the cooled blueberry sauce, maple syrup, vanilla bean seeds or vanilla extract, and a pinch of kosher salt. Beat on low speed just until all ingredients are well combined and evenly incorporated.
  5. Enjoy or refrigerate: You can enjoy the blueberry butter immediately or transfer it to the refrigerator for later use. Note that refrigeration will cause the butter to firm up.
  6. Soften before serving: If refrigerated, remove the blueberry butter from the fridge 20 to 30 minutes before serving to allow it to soften back to a spreadable consistency.

Notes

  • Use prepared or leftover blueberry sauce to save time.
  • Softening the butter to room temperature is essential for easy whipping.
  • Scraping down the bowl while whipping ensures the mixture is even and fluffy.
  • The vanilla bean adds a more intense flavor but can be substituted with vanilla extract.
  • Allow refrigerated butter to soften before spreading for best texture.
