This Ultimate Meat Lasagna is a classic comfort food dish that is hearty, flavorful, and perfect for feeding a crowd. Layers of seasoned ground beef, three types of cheese, and marinara sauce are stacked between tender lasagna noodles for a satisfying meal that will have everyone coming back for seconds.

For the Meat Sauce:

  • 2 pounds lean ground beef
  • 2 teaspoons dried basil leaves
  • 2 teaspoons dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon fennel seeds
  • 2 teaspoons Kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
  • 6 cups marinara sauce
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley

For the Cheese Mixture:

  • 1 box lasagna noodles (flat no boil noodles)
  • 16 ounces ricotta cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon Kosher salt
  • 1/2 pound Provolone cheese, sliced
  • 1/2 pound mozzarella cheese, sliced
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. In a large pot, brown the beef until browned on the bottom. Add basil, oregano, Kosher salt, red pepper flakes, and fennel seeds. Stir, then drain the fat and add marinara sauce.
  2. In a bowl, mix ricotta with egg and salt.
  3. Add no-boil noodles to meat sauce.
  4. Layer the lasagna: meat sauce, noodles, Provolone, meat sauce, mozzarella, Parmesan, ricotta. Repeat for 3 layers.
  5. Top with noodles, Parmesan, mozzarella, cover with foil, bake for 40 mins, then uncover and bake for 10 more mins.
  6. Let cool before serving, garnish with parsley.

Notes

  • For a vegetarian option, substitute the ground beef with plant-based crumbles.
  • You can prepare the lasagna ahead of time and refrigerate it before baking.
  • Experiment with adding layers of sautéed vegetables for extra flavor and nutrition.
