Eggs and Filling
- 12 large eggs
- 1/3 to 1/2 cup mayonnaise or Miracle Whip
- 1 teaspoon yellow mustard
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Spider Decoration
- Boil the Eggs: Place eggs in the bottom of a large pot or Dutch oven and cover with water. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat and cook for 12 minutes. Maintain a steady boil but prevent boiling over. Turn off the heat and let eggs sit in hot water for another 5 to 10 minutes to finish cooking through.
- Ice Bath and Peel: Prepare a large bowl with ice and cold water. Transfer the eggs carefully from the pot to the ice bath using a slotted spoon. Let them cool for about 10 minutes. To peel, gently crack the eggs on the counter and peel under running cold water for ease.
- Slice Eggs: Once peeled and rinsed, slice each egg in half lengthwise and carefully remove the yolks into a medium bowl.
- Make Filling: Mash the egg yolks with a fork, then add 1/3 cup mayonnaise, yellow mustard, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly until creamy. Add up to 1/2 cup mayonnaise if a creamier texture is desired.
- Fill Egg Whites: Spoon the yolk mixture into the hollowed egg whites evenly, filling each cavity generously.
- Create Olive Spiders: Take 12 olives and cut each in half; place one half on top of each filled egg as the spider body. Slice remaining olives thinly to make the spider legs, arranging 3 to 4 slices on each side of the olive half to resemble legs.
- Serve or Store: Serve immediately for best freshness, or refrigerate in an airtight container. These deviled eggs can be stored safely for up to 3 days.
Notes
- Using Miracle Whip instead of mayonnaise will give the filling a sweeter taste.
- Olives should be pitted to avoid any unpleasant bites and easy slicing.
- These deviled eggs are great for Halloween but can be served anytime you want a fun, creative appetizer.
- Ensure eggs are fully cooled before peeling to make the process easier.
- Adjust seasoning according to taste, adding more mustard or pepper if you prefer a tangier filling.
- Keep the deviled eggs refrigerated until serving to maintain freshness and food safety.
