Pigs in the Blanket are a classic, crowd-pleasing appetizer featuring mini cocktail sausages wrapped in flaky crescent roll dough and baked to golden perfection. They are perfect for parties, game days, or a quick and easy snack.

Ingredients

Scale

Sausages

  • 12 oz Package Beef Lit’L Smokies

Dough

  • 10 oz Can Crescent Roll Dough

Egg Wash (Optional)

  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon cold water

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough: Open the can of refrigerated crescent roll dough and unroll it on a clean cutting board.
  2. Cut Dough Triangles: Slice each large dough triangle into 3 smaller triangles to create the perfect size for wrapping the sausages.
  3. Wrap the Sausages: Take one piece of dough and roll it around each mini cocktail sausage, ensuring it is fully wrapped and sealed.
  4. Arrange on Baking Sheet: Place the wrapped sausages on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper for easy cleanup and even baking.
  5. Prepare Egg Wash: In a small bowl, whisk together one egg and one tablespoon of cold water to create an egg wash. Use a pastry brush to apply a thin layer over each wrapped sausage for a shiny, golden finish.
  6. Bake: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and bake the pigs in a blanket for 12 to 15 minutes, or until the dough is golden brown and cooked through.
  7. Cool and Serve: Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly before serving warm with your favorite dipping sauces.

Notes

  • The egg wash is optional but helps achieve a beautiful golden-brown exterior.
  • You can substitute beef Lit’L Smokies with turkey or pork cocktail sausages as preferred.
  • For a spicier option, try adding a sprinkle of your favorite seasoning or a dab of mustard inside the dough before wrapping.
  • These can be made ahead and refrigerated before baking; just add a few extra minutes to the baking time if chilled.
