Delicious and easy-to-make Philly Cheesesteak Bowls featuring browned ground beef, sautéed vegetables, and melted provolone cheese, perfect for a low-carb, satisfying meal without the bun.

Ingredients

Scale

Meat Mixture

  • 1 pound ground beef (90% lean)
  • ½ cup beef broth
  • 1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Vegetables and Cheese

  • 2 tsp olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 2 green bell peppers, diced
  • 8 mushrooms, diced
  • 4 slices provolone cheese

Instructions

  1. Brown the beef: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned. Drain any excess fat.
  2. Add broth and Worcestershire sauce: Pour in the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, stirring to combine. Continue cooking for 4-5 minutes or until most of the liquid is absorbed. Season with salt and pepper as desired. Remove the meat from the skillet and set aside.
  3. Sauté the vegetables: Heat the olive oil in the same skillet over medium heat for about one minute. Add the diced onion, green bell peppers, and mushrooms. Cook for 5-6 minutes or until the vegetables are softened.
  4. Combine meat and vegetables: Return the cooked beef to the skillet with the sautéed vegetables. Mix everything together thoroughly.
  5. Melt the cheese: Either divide the mixture into 4 bowls and place one slice of provolone cheese on top of each to melt or keep everything in the skillet and evenly place the provolone slices over the meat mixture. Allow the cheese to melt a bit before serving.
  6. Serve: Enjoy as is or optionally serve on a toasted, buttered bun or hoagie roll for a classic Philly cheesesteak experience.

Notes

  • Nutrition values are calculated using 90% lean ground beef.
  • For smaller portions, melt the cheese on the entire skillet mixture before dividing.
  • Optional: serve with toasted buns for a traditional cheesesteak sandwich.
  • Use fresh vegetables for best flavor and texture.
