A delicious twist on the classic burger, the Pepperoni Mushroom Pizza Burger combines juicy ground beef patties with savory pepperoni, sautéed mushrooms, melted mozzarella cheese, and tangy pizza sauce, all sandwiched in a toasted hamburger bun for an irresistible pizza-flavored meal.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Patties

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/4 cup bread crumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp olive oil

For the Toppings

  • 1/2 cup sliced pepperoni
  • 1/2 cup sliced mushrooms
  • 1/2 cup pizza sauce or marinara sauce
  • 4 slices mozzarella cheese

For Assembly and Cooking

  • 4 hamburger buns
  • 1 tbsp olive oil (for grilling)

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare the Grill or Skillet: Heat your grill or skillet over medium heat, then brush it lightly with olive oil to prevent sticking and to help achieve a nice sear on the burgers.
  2. Mix the Burger Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine ground beef, bread crumbs, egg, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and salt. Mix gently until well combined, being careful not to overwork the meat which can make the patties tough.
  3. Form the Patties: Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape each into a round patty about 1/2 inch thick, ensuring they are uniform for even cooking.
  4. Cook the Patties: Place the patties on the preheated grill or skillet and cook for about 5-7 minutes on each side, flipping once, until they are fully cooked through and have a nice brown crust.
  5. Sauté the Mushrooms: While the patties cook, heat a skillet with a bit of olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced mushrooms and sauté for 3-4 minutes until they are tender and browned.
  6. Melt the Cheese: During the last minute of cooking the patties, place a slice of mozzarella cheese on each patty. Cover the grill or skillet briefly to help the cheese melt perfectly.
  7. Toast the Buns: Lightly toast the hamburger buns on the grill or in a toaster to improve texture and flavor.
  8. Assemble the Burgers: Spread pizza sauce on the bottom halves of the toasted buns. Place the cheesy burger patties on top, then layer with sautéed mushrooms and sliced pepperoni.
  9. Serve: Top with the bun tops to close the burgers and serve immediately while warm and melty for the best taste experience.

Notes

  • For a spicier kick, add some crushed red pepper flakes to the burger mixture or pizza sauce.
  • Use gluten-free bread crumbs and buns to make this recipe gluten-free.
  • You can substitute turkey or chicken for a leaner option.
  • If you prefer, use fresh mozzarella slices for a creamier texture.
  • To avoid soggy buns, toast them lightly and serve immediately after assembling.
