Ingredients

Scale

Truffle Base

  • 36 golden sandwich cookies (like Golden Oreos)
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1 tsp orange extract
  • Zest of 1 orange
  • Orange gel food coloring (optional)

Coating and Decoration

  • 12 oz white chocolate chips or white candy melts
  • Optional toppings: sprinkles, orange sanding sugar, or extra orange zest

Instructions

  1. Crush the cookies: Place the golden sandwich cookies into a food processor and pulse them until they become fine crumbs. If you don’t have a processor, put the cookies in a zip-top bag and crush them using a rolling pin until finely ground.
  2. Make the filling: In a large mixing bowl, combine the cookie crumbs with softened cream cheese, orange extract, and orange zest. Add a drop or two of orange gel food coloring if you want a more vibrant orange color. Mix everything thoroughly until you get a smooth, dough-like consistency.
  3. Shape into balls: Scoop approximately 1 tablespoon of the mixture and roll it gently between your palms to form a smooth ball. Place each ball on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  4. Chill: Refrigerate the shaped truffles for 30 to 60 minutes to let them firm up. Alternatively, you can freeze them for about 20 minutes. This step helps in making the truffles easier to dip.
  5. Melt the chocolate: Put the white chocolate chips or candy melts in a microwave-safe bowl and heat them in 20 to 30 second intervals, stirring between each interval, until fully melted and smooth.
  6. Dip the truffles: Using a fork or dipping tool, carefully dip each chilled truffle into the melted white chocolate, ensuring it is completely coated. Allow any excess chocolate to drip off before placing the coated truffle back onto the lined baking sheet.
  7. Decorate and set: While the coating is still wet, sprinkle your choice of decorations such as colored sugar, sprinkles, or additional orange zest on top. Let the chocolate coating set at room temperature, or place the truffles in the fridge to speed up the process.

Notes

  • Use full-fat cream cheese for best texture and flavor.
  • If you don’t have orange extract, you can substitute with vanilla extract, but the orange flavor will be less pronounced.
  • Store the truffles in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week.
  • For a dairy-free version, substitute cream cheese and white chocolate with suitable plant-based alternatives.
  • Be careful not to overheat the white chocolate to prevent burning or seizing.
