This Mozzarella Prosciutto Sandwich combines the savory richness of thinly sliced prosciutto with fresh, creamy mozzarella and peppery arugula, all nestled inside toasted crusty rolls. A touch of olive oil and optional balsamic vinegar enhances the flavors, delivering a simple yet elegant sandwich perfect for a quick lunch or light dinner.

Ingredients

Scale

Sandwich

  • 2 crusty sandwich rolls or baguette
  • 4 oz prosciutto, thinly sliced
  • 4 oz fresh mozzarella, sliced
  • A handful of fresh arugula or spinach

Condiments

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon balsamic vinegar (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the pan: Heat a pan or skillet over medium heat to prepare it for toasting the sandwiches.
  2. Prepare the bread: Slice the sandwich rolls or baguette in half. Drizzle the inside of each slice lightly with olive oil.
  3. Toast the bread: Place the bread slices cut side down in the heated pan and toast until they become golden brown and crispy, enhancing texture and flavor.
  4. Add balsamic vinegar: Remove the toasted bread from the pan and optionally drizzle a little balsamic vinegar on the bottom halves to add a subtle tang.
  5. Assemble the sandwich: Layer the prosciutto, fresh mozzarella, and fresh arugula or spinach over the bottom halves of the bread.
  6. Season and complete: Sprinkle with salt and pepper to taste, then top with the other slice of bread to complete the sandwich.
  7. Serve: Slice each sandwich in half and serve immediately to enjoy the combination of warm toasted bread and fresh fillings.

Notes

  • For a vegetarian option, omit the prosciutto and add extra mozzarella or grilled vegetables.
  • Use spinach instead of arugula for a milder flavor.
  • Balsamic vinegar is optional but adds a nice acidity that complements the richness of the cheese and prosciutto.
  • Make sure to toast the bread well enough to achieve a crispy texture but avoid burning.
  • Serve immediately for the best taste and texture, as the bread may become soggy if left to sit.
