Ingredients

Scale

Fruits

  • 12 oz fresh cranberries
  • 1 apple, cored and quartered
  • 1/2 orange, seeds removed and ends trimmed

Sweetener

  • 1 cup granulated sugar

Optional Toppings

  • Extra cranberries for garnish
  • Orange zest for garnish

Instructions

  1. Chop cranberries: Place the fresh cranberries in a food processor and pulse until they are coarsely chopped. Transfer the chopped cranberries to a large bowl.
  2. Chop apple: Add the cored and quartered apple to the food processor and pulse until finely chopped. Add the chopped apple to the bowl with the cranberries.
  3. Chop orange: Add the orange, with seeds removed and ends trimmed, to the food processor and pulse until finely chopped. Transfer the chopped orange to the bowl with the cranberries and apple.
  4. Mix ingredients: Add the granulated sugar to the bowl with the chopped cranberries, apple, and orange. Stir well to combine all the ingredients thoroughly.
  5. Refrigerate: Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least one hour and up to three days before serving. Allowing it to rest overnight enhances the melding of flavors.
  6. Serve: Serve the cranberry relish chilled. Optionally, garnish with extra cranberries and a sprinkle of orange zest to add a festive touch.

Notes

  • This relish is best made a day ahead to let the flavors fully develop.
  • You can finely chop the ingredients by hand if you don’t have a food processor, but pulsing ensures a more uniform texture.
  • Use fresh cranberries for best tartness, but thawed frozen cranberries can be used in a pinch.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container refrigerated and consume within three days.
