Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 4 cups Rice Krispies cereal
  • 1 cup mini marshmallows (plus extra for topping)
  • 10 ounces marshmallows (regular size)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Optional Garnishes

  • Chocolate chips
  • Sprinkles
  • Melted chocolate for drizzling

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Mixture: In a large saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Once melted, add the regular marshmallows and stir continuously until completely melted and smooth. Stir in the unsweetened cocoa powder until fully combined and smooth. Add the vanilla extract and salt and mix well.
  2. Combine with Cereal: Remove the saucepan from heat and quickly stir in the Rice Krispies cereal and mini marshmallows until everything is well coated with the chocolate marshmallow mixture. Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish with butter or cooking spray. Pour the mixture into the dish and press it down evenly with a spatula or lightly greased hands to prevent sticking.
  3. Set and Garnish: Allow the treats to cool at room temperature for about 30 minutes to set. Before they are completely set, sprinkle extra mini marshmallows on top and gently press them into the surface. Optionally, drizzle melted chocolate or sprinkle chocolate chips or festive sprinkles over the top for extra decoration.
  4. Cut and Serve: Once set completely, cut the treats into squares or rectangles. Serve as a fun and delicious snack.

Notes

  • You can add peppermint extract to the marshmallow mixture for a festive minty twist.
  • Mix in crushed graham crackers or nuts with the cereal for added texture.
  • For a vegan version, use vegan marshmallows and dairy-free butter alternatives.
  • Store leftover treats in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerate for longer freshness.
  • Freezing is possible but may slightly change the texture; wrap tightly and consume within 1-2 months.
