Hissy Fit Dip is a rich and creamy baked sausage cheese dip that’s perfect for parties or game days. It combines savory breakfast sausage with Velveeta, cream cheese, sour cream, cheddar, and a blend of spices, baked to bubbly perfection and topped with crispy bacon and fresh parsley for added flavor and texture.

Ingredients

Scale

Meat

  • 1 pound breakfast sausage
  • 1/2 cup cooked bacon, chopped (optional topping)

Cheeses & Dairy

  • 8 ounces Velveeta cheese, cubed
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese, divided

Spices & Seasonings

  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

Garnish

  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley (optional garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to prepare for baking the dip.
  2. Cook Sausage: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the breakfast sausage until it’s browned and crumbly, then drain off any excess grease to prevent the dip from being too oily.
  3. Mix Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the cubed Velveeta, softened cream cheese, sour cream, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper. Add in the cooked sausage and half of the shredded cheddar cheese, mixing everything together thoroughly.
  4. Soften Cheese Mixture: Microwave the combined mixture for 1 to 2 minutes until the cheeses soften, then stir until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
  5. Prepare Baking Dish: Grease an 8×8-inch baking dish, then transfer the cheese and sausage mixture into it, smoothing the top evenly.
  6. Add Topping Cheese: Sprinkle the remaining cheddar cheese evenly over the top of the prepared mixture.
  7. Bake: Bake the dip in the preheated oven for 25 to 30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the dip is hot and bubbly throughout.
  8. Add Final Toppings: Remove the dip from the oven and immediately top with the chopped cooked bacon and fresh parsley for added flavor and presentation.
  9. Serve: Serve the dip warm with chips, baguette slices, or vegetable sticks for dipping.

Notes

  • You can omit the cayenne pepper for a milder flavor or increase it if you prefer more heat.
  • For a vegetarian version, substitute sausage and bacon with plant-based alternatives.
  • The dip can be prepared ahead of time and refrigerated before baking; just add a few extra minutes to the baking time if baking from cold.
  • Use a full-fat cream cheese and sour cream for best texture and taste.
  • Serve with sturdy dippers like toasted baguette or thick-cut chips to hold the hearty dip.
