Ingredients

Scale

For the Shakshuka:

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 bell pepper, diced
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 4 large tomatoes, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili flakes (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 large eggs

For Garnish:

  • Fresh herbs for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add onion and bell pepper, cooking until softened, about 5 minutes.
  2. Stir in the garlic and cook for another minute.
  3. Add the chopped tomatoes, cumin, paprika, chili flakes, salt, and pepper. Stir well and simmer for 10-12 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  4. Use a spoon to create small wells in the sauce. Crack the eggs into the wells, then cover the skillet and cook for 5-7 minutes, until the eggs are set to your liking.
  5. Garnish with fresh herbs if desired, and serve with crusty bread or pita for dipping.
