This easy and flavorful Bread Machine Cheese Bread recipe combines a blend of your favorite cheeses with a soft, warm bread made effortlessly in your bread machine. Perfect as a savory snack, side, or sandwich base, this cheese bread offers a delightful taste with minimal preparation and can be baked either in the bread machine or oven for a fresh, homemade loaf.

Ingredients

Scale

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup warm water (approximately 110°F)
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp garlic (minced)

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp white sugar
  • 3 cups bread flour
  • 1 ¼ tsp yeast (active, instant or bread machine yeast)

Cheese

  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar, asiago, parmesan, mozzarella, or your favorite cheese)

Instructions

  1. Add Ingredients: Place all ingredients into the bread machine pan in the order recommended by your bread machine manufacturer, reserving 1/4 cup of the shredded cheese to top the bread later.
  2. Select Settings: Choose the basic or white bread setting on your machine, select the 1.5 lb loaf size, and pick your preferred crust color. If baking in the oven, choose the dough setting instead and press start to begin the kneading and rising cycles.
  3. Bake in Machine: When the last kneading cycle ends, optionally remove the kneading paddle for easier bread removal. After the final rise, brush the sides with an egg wash and sprinkle the reserved cheese on top. Complete the bake cycle, then immediately remove the pan, cool for 10 minutes, and carefully take the bread out. Allow the bread to cool completely before slicing.
  4. Bake in Oven: After the dough cycle finishes, remove the dough from the bread pan, punch it down gently, and shape it as desired. Place the dough on a parchment-lined baking sheet, cover with a towel, and let it rise in a warm spot until doubled in size (about 45 minutes). Brush the top and sides with egg wash and sprinkle with remaining cheese. Bake at 350°F for 30-35 minutes until internal temperature reaches 190°F. Cool on a wire rack completely before slicing.

Notes

  • For best results, use bread flour for optimal texture and structure.
  • The type of cheese can be customized to your preference; sharper cheeses will produce a stronger flavor.
  • Removing the kneading paddle before the final rise helps create a more uniform loaf and easier slicing.
  • If you prefer a softer crust, choose a lighter crust setting on your bread machine.
  • Egg wash helps the cheese stick and gives the crust a beautiful golden color.
  • Make sure water is warm, not hot, to properly activate the yeast without killing it.
  • Store leftover bread in an airtight container to maintain freshness for up to 3 days.
