Ingredients

Scale

Beef and Vegetables

  • 1 pound flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced against the grain
  • 2 cups broccoli florets
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, minced (or 1 teaspoon ground ginger)

Marinade

  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil

Sauce

  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup beef broth or water

Instructions

  1. Marinate the Beef: In a bowl, combine 2 tablespoons soy sauce, 1 tablespoon cornstarch, and 1 tablespoon vegetable oil. Add the thinly sliced beef and toss to coat thoroughly. Allow it to marinate for at least 10 minutes to tenderize and infuse flavor.
  2. Prepare the Sauce: In a separate bowl, whisk together 1/4 cup soy sauce, 2 tablespoons oyster sauce (if using), 1 tablespoon brown sugar, 1 tablespoon cornstarch, and 1/2 cup beef broth or water until smooth. Set aside to use later.
  3. Cook the Broccoli: Bring a pot of water to a boil and blanch the broccoli florets for about 2 minutes or until they become bright green and tender-crisp. Drain well and set aside to keep their texture intact.
  4. Stir Fry the Beef: Heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the marinated beef in a single layer and stir-fry for about 2 to 3 minutes until the beef is browned but still tender. Remove the beef from the skillet and set it aside.
  5. Combine Ingredients: In the same skillet, add a little more oil if needed, then sauté the minced garlic and ginger for about 30 seconds until fragrant. Return the cooked beef and blanched broccoli to the skillet. Pour the prepared sauce over the mixture, stirring constantly. Cook for another 2 to 3 minutes until the sauce thickens and everything is heated through.
  6. Serve: Serve the beef and broccoli stir fry immediately while hot, ideally over steamed rice or noodles for a complete meal.

Notes

  • Slice the beef thinly against the grain for tenderness.
  • Blanching broccoli helps retain its bright color and crisp texture.
  • Oyster sauce is optional but adds a richer depth of flavor.
  • Adjust soy sauce and sugar to taste depending on your preferred saltiness and sweetness.
  • Serve immediately for best texture and flavor.
  • Can be made gluten-free by using tamari or gluten-free soy sauce.
