Ingredients

Scale

For the Cranberry Sauce

  • 1 to 1.5 cups fresh cranberries (or frozen)
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup water or orange juice
  • 1 tablespoon freshly squeezed orange juice
  • Zest of one orange

For the Brie

  • 8 ounces Brie cheese wheel
  • Puff pastry sheet (enough to wrap the Brie)
  • Egg wash (1 egg beaten with 1 tablespoon water, for brushing pastry)
  • Chopped pecans or walnuts (for topping, optional)
  • Fresh rosemary or thyme sprigs (for garnish, optional)

To Serve (Optional)

  • Honey or fig jam
  • Crackers, sliced baguette, or fresh fruit

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Cranberry Sauce: Rinse the cranberries thoroughly. In a small saucepan, combine the cranberries, sugar, water or orange juice, freshly squeezed orange juice, and orange zest. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally. Cook for 10-15 minutes until the berries burst and the sauce thickens. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  2. Preheat and Prep the Brie: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Roll out the puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface if using. Place the Brie wheel in the center of the pastry. Optionally, sprinkle chopped pecans or walnuts and fresh herbs on top of the Brie before wrapping.
  3. Assemble the Brie: Wrap the Brie completely with the puff pastry, folding the edges up and over to seal. Brush the pastry with the egg wash to achieve a beautiful golden finish. Place the wrapped Brie on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  4. Bake the Brie: Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes until the puff pastry is golden and crispy, or if baking without pastry, until the Brie is soft and gooey. Be careful not to overbake to keep the cheese melty inside and maintain its shape.
  5. Serve with Cranberry Sauce: Transfer the baked Brie to a serving platter. Spoon the cranberry sauce over or alongside the Brie. Garnish with fresh rosemary or thyme sprigs if desired. Serve immediately with crackers, sliced baguette, or fresh fruit. Optionally, offer honey or fig jam on the side for extra sweetness.

Notes

  • You can use frozen cranberries if fresh ones are unavailable; just rinse them before use.
  • If you prefer, omit the puff pastry for a simpler baked Brie, but watch closely to avoid melting or losing shape.
  • For a vegetarian option, ensure your puff pastry is free from animal fats.
  • Store leftover cranberry sauce in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
  • Adding nuts provides a pleasant crunch and contrast to the creamy Brie.
