Ingredients

Scale

Apple Cranberry Mix

  • 7 cups honey crisp apples, sliced
  • 3 cups cranberries, frozen
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • Juice and zest of 1 orange
  • 4 tbsp corn starch
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp ginger
  • ¼ tsp cardamom
  • ⅛ tsp ground cloves
  • ⅛ tsp nutmeg
  • ⅛ tsp allspice
  • 1 tsp kosher salt (Diamond Crystal brand)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Crisp Topping

  • 4 oz unsalted butter, room temperature
  • ¾ cup oats
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ½ tsp cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp nutmeg
  • ⅛ tsp kosher salt (Diamond Crystal brand)
  • ½ cup flour (all purpose or gluten free)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Apple Cranberry Mix: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). In a large mixing bowl, combine the sliced honey crisp apples, frozen cranberries, brown sugar, granulated sugar, orange juice and zest, corn starch, cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, ground cloves, nutmeg, allspice, kosher salt, and vanilla extract. Mix everything thoroughly until well combined.
  2. Transfer to Baking Dish: Pour the apple cranberry mixture into a deep dish pie pan, spreading it out evenly to form the base layer.
  3. Make Crisp Topping: In a separate bowl, mix together the room temperature unsalted butter, oats, granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, kosher salt, and flour. Use your fingers or a pastry cutter to combine the ingredients until crumbly and well mixed.
  4. Top and Bake: Sprinkle the crisp topping evenly over the apple cranberry mixture in the pie pan. Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 75 to 90 minutes, or until the apples are tender, the topping is golden brown, and the filling is bubbly.
  5. Cool and Serve: Remove the crisp from the oven and let it cool for at least 15 minutes before serving. This will help the filling set and make it easier to scoop portions.

Notes

  • For best results, use fresh honey crisp apples for a sweet and crisp texture.
  • Frozen cranberries work well, but if fresh are available, they can be used instead.
  • You can substitute gluten-free flour to make this crisp gluten-free.
  • Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for extra indulgence.
  • Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days; reheat before serving.
